Appel Chantier IA 2 | Sound practices

CHANTIER IA | Cohort | sound practices (music, sound art, podcast/radio, spoken word)
As part of its Chantier IA, Sporobole is looking for three artists (1) working primarily with sound and whose practices involve music, sound art, podcasting, radio, spoken word or performance poetry. The selected artists for this call will be asked to experiment with generative AI tools and develop prototypes or sequences of works. This is a residency focused primarily on exploration and experimentation; the production of finished, complete works is optional.
All tools (open source or commercial) can be considered. Sporobole provides on-demand licenses (2), computers and remote servers to install models, and technological and artistic support throughout the residency. Artists will be housed in Sporobole’s residences, and transportation costs within the province will be reimbursed (2) .
The residency will take place in cohort mode: the three selected artists will work in parallel on their respective projects, and must be present on site simultaneously for the entire six-week residency (certain arrangements may be envisaged). The aim of this mode of operation is to encourage the sharing of learning and knowledge, but also to create a spirit of camaraderie and exchange around the issues raised by these generative tools for artistic creation. One or more researchers may be present during the residency to document and study the exploration processes and their results.
A jury made up of professional partners from the milieu and members of the Sporobole team will deliberate and make the selection in December 2024. The residencies are scheduled to begin in March 2025. The selection criteria will be artistic excellence, experience, interest in exploratory approaches, posture towards generative AIs and ability to function as a cohort. We’ll be looking to build a diverse cohort with a range of approaches. All artists who apply will receive a reply.
(1) We are looking for artists who are as enthusiastic about generative AIs as they are critical or fearful. The aim of the Art IA project is to encourage the emergence, through practice, of knowledge and a better understanding of the issues raised by these tools for independent artistic creation.
(2) Certain budgetary limits may apply.

- 6-week residency divided into 2 or 3 blocks;
- 3 artists working simultaneously on their respective projects;
- Fee including per diem: $900 per week or $5400;
