Mediation
Vision of Cultural Mediation
Through our cultural mediation activities, we offer various audiences a space for reflection where they can freely engage in a critical and artistic context. We recognize that art is a porous link and a pathway to the cultural and social questions that arise from it. Our programming is divided into four components: Empathic Listening, Empathic Viewing, Community Rooting, and Art/Science.
Community Rooting
Focused on artistic creation, the Community Rooted component offers a creative space for artist collectives to stimulate creativity and strengthen ties among artists. The Sherbrooke Drawing Club and the Zines Club meet there every month. Sporobole provides a meeting space with the goal of developing a community based on the appropriation of processes and the sharing of knowledge about art-science practices in the Eastern Townships.
Empathetic look
We perceive that guided tours of our exhibitions serve as a meeting place. Artworks act as platforms that engage visitors in conversations about the emotions and sensations they experience when confronted with a piece of art, fostering openness and understanding of others’ perspectives, a cornerstone of empathetic understanding.
Empathetic listening
Sporobole offers various activities linked to the exhibitions in order to create a space for exchange between the exhibiting artists and the public. In a relaxed atmosphere, the talks offer the community a presentation given by the artists on their artistic practices, followed by a discussion with the curator and the public.
