Maël Labruyère | Prix | Cégep de Sherbrooke Exhibition 2024

In 2024, as part of the Cégep de Sherbrooke Visual Arts Graduates Exhibition, Sporobole proudly awarded a prize to artist Maël Labruyère in recognition of the excellence and uniqueness of her artistic approach!

The prize, worth a total of $4,125, includes a one-week creative residency at Sporobole’s studio-labo, including 25 hours of coaching and access to equipment and workspaces.

The aim of the residency is to provide the artist-in-training with a professional environment conducive to the development of their artistic work, by giving them access to our technical, material and human resources.

We look forward to following the evolution of his project!

Presentation of the project by the artist :

How does biological, animal or plant consciousness develop in a denatured environment? How do animals and plants inhabit this altered space? What about me? I traverse an urban ecosystem, a world clothed in concrete and grass, pixels and screens. I explore these multiple relationships between living things through a multi-faceted visual investigation. Lines are simplified, images are saturated with color and texture and, in transparency, subjects intermingle with their habitat. I need to show, to speak. To dialogue with the dandelions that spring up between the cracks in the sidewalk, with the paths that are carved out in the forest and the pigeons that peck at the pollution. What if I gave a voice to artificial things too?
