Discrete Flow of Light

With Discrete Flow of Light, the third and final work of a triptych based on light-sound synchronicity, the artist begins a reflection on co-creation with artificial intelligence; shared decision-making, machine-induced extra-musical referents and real-time feedback will be explored. In conjunction with the adoption of an intelligent computer process, Côté will use just intonation, enabling the emergence of new musical and conceptual possibilities, in phase with the idea of flux, eruption and continuity.

Acting as a prologue to the proposed project, Discrete Stream of Light (2022) is a sound piece inspired by the sparkling luminosity entering the artist’s studio at dusk, initiated as a spontaneous creative exercise following the initiation of daily minimalist studies. The premise of the initial project, a direct and intimate window on the artist’s creative world – through luminosity – thus acts as an emotional vector for the proposed project.  The direct similarity of the titles, unlike a word, amplifies this intention.

This perceptive sensitivity to light is also rooted in the artist’s very own physical sensitivity, linked to a physical condition; as a young man, he couldn’t look at the sun without fainting, so special glasses became a daily necessity in order to appreciate the outdoors. The proposed project – see the complete creative cycle – thus bears witness to a unique and striking sensory relationship.
