Maurice Jones

Maurice Jones (he/him) is a curator, artist, and researcher based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, Canada. He is a PhD candidate at Concordia University under the supervision of Dr. Fenwick McKelvey, where he investigates cross-cultural perceptions of AI, public participation in technology governance, and festivals as temporary utopias.
In 2021, Maurice joined MUTEK’s Montréal headquarters, where he developed the program for the professional MUTEK Forum and led the transnational Future Festivals think tank. From 2016 to 2022, he served as the Artistic Director of MUTEK.JP, the Tokyo-based edition of the festival dedicated to electronic music and digital creativity.
His artistic practice, influenced by critical STS and black technoscience, investigates techno-ecological entanglements. Notable works include the Iwakura full-dome performance and the collective research-creation project Wilding AI. Most recently, he produced a trilogy of generative, spatialized sound works under the umbrella of A Maroon’s Technical Practice.
His work has been presented at renowned festivals and institutions, including transmediale, CTM Festival, New Now, the Society for Arts and Technology, the Miraikan Museum, the Coreana Museum of Art, and MUTEK festivals in Montreal, Tokyo, and Mexico City.
