DANS LE CADRE DU CHANTIER IA, SPOROBOLE ACCUEILLE FÉLIX BERNIER POUR UNE RÉSIDENCE DE RECHERCHE ET DE CRÉATION SUR LES OUTILS ET LES ENJEUX DE L’INTELLIGENCE ARTIFICIELLE

AS PART OF THE CHANTIER IA, SPOROBOLE WELCOMES FÉLIX BERNIER FOR A RESEARCH AND CREATIVE RESIDENCY ON THE TOOLS AND CHALLENGES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

This long-term residency lasts four weeks.

As part of his residency, Félix Bernier intends to develop an AI capable of translating natural sound environments into words and images, creating an interface that makes sound tangible in order to provoke reflection on our relationship with the sound world around us.

To this end, the artist plans to use a natural language processing algorithm to demonstrate that every sound in nature is part of a complex communication system. He wishes to explore how new technologies can be used to interpret this system while transforming our active and participatory listening into a passive experience.

Bernier’s environmental research often reveals insights that focus on conflicting and contradictory ideas underlying space. The environment explored thus becomes the channel for ideas conveyed, and the form of the work varies according to what is to be highlighted: photographic series, interactive installations, or media art pieces.

One of Bernier’s main areas of interest is the impact of technological evolution on the environment and on the social ties between the people affected. This is why this project aims to reflect on communication systems present in nature. While technologies allow us to understand these layers of communication as a whole without distinguishing their subtleties, they also tend to separate us from them and confine us to a position of passive hearing. Through this project, the artist’s goal is to highlight this separation and the role played by new technologies.
