Shanie Tomassini

Shanie Tomassini (1991) is a visual artist based in Montreal. She completed her MFA in sculpture at the University of Texas at Austin in 2019 where she was awarded the UMLAUF Prize and the Cofa Summer Fellowship. In her work, she thinks about the nature of material as well as its evolution in space and time. Her research always crystallizes around a form that becomes a motif of poetic emancipation. She has presented her work in several solo exhibitions, notably at the Clark Center (Montreal), Circa Art Actuel (Montreal), the Charles UMLAUF Museum (Austin) and the Courtyard Gallery (Austin). She has also exhibited at Sweet Pass Sculpture Park (Dallas), the Quebec City Contemporary Art Fair, the Visual Art Center (Austin). Her work is currently on display at TAP Art Space in Toronto and will be shown at Artpace in San Antonio, Texas later this year. Shanie Tomassini is currently the recipient of two Canada Council for the Arts Research and Creation grants.
