Myriam Yates

Myriam Yates‘ work takes the form of large-scale projections and photographic series. She favors a hybrid approach to the image between documentary and video essay. She has participated in events such as the Festival international du film sur l’art (Montreal), Kassel Dokfest (Germany), Images Festival (Toronto), Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Mois de la Photo à Montréal and Nuit Blanche Toronto. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions at the Foreman Art Gallery, Bishop’s University (Sherbrooke), the Hessel Museum of Art (New York), the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Galerie Leonard&Bina Ellen (Sightings), Dazibao, center en art actuel Optica (Montréal) and Galerie d’art Antoine-Sirois de l’Université de Sherbrooke. In 2015, she won the Victor-Martyn-Lynch-Staunton Award in Media Arts from the Canada Council for the Arts. In 2022, she won the Seeing and Not Knowing competition from Concordia University’s Leonard & Bina Ellen Gallery for the production of a short film at Orford Musique. She studied fine arts, advertising and graphic design before completing a master’s degree in visual and media arts at UQÀM. Originally from Montreal, she lives in Sherbrooke (Quebec) since 2009.
