Émilie Payeur vit et travaille à Montréal, Canada. Elle est une artiste multidisciplinaire, principalement active en musique expérimentale et en arts visuels. Souvent décrite comme étant minimaliste et parfois harsh, sa musique est principalement basée sur la technique du ”no-input” et la prise de risque. Dans son travail visuel, elle s’intéresse d’une part aux traces qu’elle perçoit comme des vestiges d’évènements ou d’actions passées et d’une autre part à la manipulation de la réalité, au regard de l’autre et à son propre regard. Titulaire d’un diplôme de maîtrise en composition de musique électroacoustique de l’Université de Montréal, son travail a été présenté et récompensé au Canada et à l’international.

Elle est membre de Dead Squirrels (trio de musique noise), Kohlenstoff Records (étiquette et collectif de musique expérimentale), Projet K (ensemble expérimental), Moshi Moshi (trio audio/visuel expérimental et Kawaii) et Jeunesse Cosmique (étiquette de musique spatiale et famille cosmique). Elle joue également dans le gamelan Giri Kedaton.

Émilie Payeur lives and works in Montreal, Canada. She is a multidisciplinary artist, mainly active in experimental music and visual arts. Often described as minimalist and sometimes harsh, her music is mainly based on the no-input technique and risk taking. In her visual work, she is interested in traces that she perceives as vestiges of past events or actions, and in the manipulation of reality, in the gaze of the other and in her own gaze. She holds a master’s degree in electroacoustic music composition from the Université de Montréal and her work has been presented and awarded in Canada and internationally.

She is a member of Dead Squirrels (noise music trio), Kohlenstoff Records (experimental music label and collective), Projet K (experimental ensemble), Moshi Moshi (experimental and Kawaii audio/visual trio) and Jeunesse Cosmique (space music label and cosmic family). She also plays in the gamelan Giri Kedaton.

Olen Metsässä (2019) – Sound performance / 30 minutes

Olen Metsässä (“I am in the forest” in Finnish) is a sound performance based on the artist’s experiments of observation in the forest during a two-month residency in Finland (Kulttuurikauppila) from which she has just returned. No-input” and ”field recordings” are the raw materials of this audio work.

The principle of observation – crossing here those of infiltration and surveillance – is not foreign to a certain form of communication. To observe is also to connect. From there, we are already in a dynamic of transmission and information, that is to say to give form – in this case a sound form – to what is initially perceived. Then from information to transformation, all audible things become possible – whether we are in the forest or elsewhere.
