Biography(ies)

Isabella Salas [she/her] is an interdisciplinary artist, creative director and producer who adopted artificial intelligence in 2020 as her principal artistic medium. Her interdisciplinary artworks are grounded in AI, video, synthesized sound and installation while taking into account neuroaesthetics properties of digital experiences. Salas is recognized for questioning the use and bias of technology, identity, perception, and environmental practices through the use of ancient and new technologies. She was nominated for the first CIFO-Ars Electronica Award in 2022. She is also the founder of the International Digital Arts Alliance, a non-profit organization that advocates for equal, open, and horizontal representation of digital artists worldwide.

As 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰, Moisés Horta Valenzuela [he/him] explores the sometimes uncanny links between ancient and new technologies through a critical lens. He is a self-trained sound artist, creative technologist and electronic musician from Tijuana, México, who works in the fields of computer music, AI and the history and politics of emerging digital technologies.

His work has been presented widely: Ars Electronica (Linz, Austria); NeurIPS Machine Learning for Creativity and Design Workshop (online); MUTEK Mexico (Mexico City); Transart Festival (Bolzano, Italy); MUTEK: AI Art Lab (Montreal, Quebec); Elektron Musik Studio & KTH: Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden); CTM Festival (Berlin, Germany). He is also developing SEMILLA, an interface for interacting with generative neural sound synthesizers, and OIR, an online channel for semi-autonomous meta-DJ trained on thousands of hours of visuals and music from global electronic club music and techno.

Indigenous Futurologies

Indigenous Futurologies is the fruit of the artist’s ongoing collaboration with 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰. The work is a call for artists to represent themselves accurately to renew, recover, and extend original voices and traditions using algorithmic technologies. Their artwork also raises questions about, and within the perimeters of Indigenous identities and computational statistics, in order to shape the future faced with a machine-informed bias.

Together, the artist and her collaborator recognize their own privilege as researchers and creators. Further, they hold space for their indigenous heritage, acknowledging the need to find accuracy to unbury roots from the algorithmic memory.
