Originally from Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Mathieu Valade lives in Chicoutimi. He teaches sculpture and drawing at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC), where he has been head of the arts department since 2021.

His work has been presented at MAC VAL (Paris, FR), BPS22 (Charleroi, BE), the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ), the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul, and in several major centers, galleries and events in Canada, Germany, Brazil, the United States, France, Spain, Greece and Sweden. His pieces can be found in many collections, including those of the MNBAQ and the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul.

He has created public artworks in various Quebec cities, including the Promenade Trois-Rivières sur Saint-Laurent (Trois-Rivières) and the Maison de la littérature (Quebec City), for which the City of Quebec awarded him the Mérites d’architecture prize in 2017 for his public art work Éphémères durables.
