ZOOM OUT\/SORTIR DE ZOOM\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Micro momentum of artistic events<\/em><\/h4>\n

ZOOM OUT\/SORTIR DE ZOOM is the theme of a one-time event with variable dimensions that brings together several cultural figures around a common reflection. Apart from the usual names – festival, biennial, triennial or carnival – ZOOM OUT\/SORTIR DE ZOOM exists as a momentum of artistic activities, highlighting the convergence of different programs that have been thought out in common and in parallel, in order to reinforce the visibility of organizations that are the beating heart of artistic diffusion in Sherbrooke.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Initiated by Sporobole, ZOOM OUT\/SORTIR DE ZOOM takes shape through the meeting of the proposals of the Antoine-Sirois Gallery of the Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke, the Foreman Gallery of Bishop’s University and the Mus\u00e9e des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke. In addition, there will be an exhibition in the Sporobole gallery; two participatory performances, one at the CASJB and the other in the public space; and an evening of performances at La petite bo\u00eete noire.<\/span><\/p>\n

ZOOM OUT\/SORTIR DE ZOOM will run from July to October 2022, with a highlight on September 8, 9 and 10, 2022, including openings, closings, releases and performances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ABOUT THE THEME<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a world where large portions of our daily lives tend to become abstract and virtualized, what happens to our shared spaces and how do our interactions deploy? The body, in these spaces, is also questioned: how is it redefined, repositioned? Because framed inside the screen – as the now banal and almost daily ‘Zoom meeting’ pandemic has shown us over the last two years – the body loses its consistency and its presence. The face is brought to the foreground, and then the rest falls into the offscreen.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a way, technologies are trying to push us to forget about the body, to put it aside, to make it something optional, to become an extension of the digital rather than the other way around. This observation is not new, already Baudrillard in the 1990s made us aware of the proliferation of screens, then, before him, Flusser accounted for the way in which the technological devices induce our gestures and not the opposite. By revisiting Lev Manovich’s The Language of New Media (2010) on the question of the body and interfaces, a reference to the film The Lawnmower Man (1992) reminds us how far from reality the imaginary we project in the virtual world is – it was the case in 1992, it still is today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless these virtual worlds that we create constantly, these spaces made up of 0 and 1, are “constructions” that we should qualify as real: they participate in our reality in the same way that everything contained in our environments, immediate or not. For ZOOM OUT\/SORTIR DE ZOOM, it is the border between these real and virtual spaces, and their porosity that interests us. How do these spaces contaminate each other? How does their junction operate at the edge of their reciprocal contour? And in what way are we able to apprehend these hybrid spaces as acting bodies?<\/span><\/p>\n
