{"id":13376,"date":"2018-09-03T20:48:22","date_gmt":"2018-09-04T00:48:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sporobole.org\/salivam-upcoming-exhibition-december-2018\/"},"modified":"2018-09-03T20:48:22","modified_gmt":"2018-09-04T00:48:22","slug":"salivam-upcoming-exhibition-december-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sporobole.org\/en\/salivam-upcoming-exhibition-december-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"SALIVAM \u2013 UPCOMING EXHIBITION DECEMBER 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper-prog\">\n<div id=\"prog\">\n<div class=\"description\">\n<p class=\"artiste\">WhiteFeather Hunter<\/p>\n<p class=\"titre\"><em><strong>Salivam<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"date\">30.11 \u2014 21.12 \/ 2018<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"content-top\">\n<div class=\"left\">\n<p class=\"vernissage\">Vernissage 30 November 2018 \u2013 Please note that dates are subject to change<\/p>\n<p>Salivam is the culmination of several months of collaborative laboratory research between WhiteFeather Hunter, Sporobole\u2019s (bio)artist-in-residence and Dr Denis Groleau, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Microorganisms and Industrial Processes at Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke.<\/p>\n<p>The research process encapsulated not only scientific laboratory experiments punctuated by art-based DIYbio approaches, but was also a process of developing a non-hierarchical transdisciplinary research relationship within an academic setting.<\/p>\n<p>The Salivam project utilizes the techniques of bacterial culture, enzyme extraction and collagen degradation to address themes and concepts developed by the researchers. Some of these are: intimacy, including bacto-intimacy, or the micro-proximity of bacteria cells with their substrates during their metabolic processes, as well as industrial biotech product development from classic artistic materials, and a humorous critique of the technological hype around anti-aging formulas.<\/p>\n<p>Together, the researchers successfully isolated and purified nonpathogenic strains of\u00a0<em>Bacillus cereus<\/em>\u00a0from soil samples taken from the site of the historic Village des Tanneries in Montreal, as well as directly from the artist\u2019s saliva. These samples, which began as unknown micro-ecologies, over time revealed their capacity to produce a strong collagen-digesting enzyme.
