Biography(ies)

Myriam Bleau is a composer, digital artist and performer based in Montreal. Using music and sound as a point of departure, she creates audiovisual performances, video works, installations and interactive interfaces that articulate sound, light and movement. She’s interested in the performative, both as a codified cultural manifestation, and as an embodied reenactment of symbolic systems through human and non-human agencies, including machine learning. Her hybrid practice explores porous spaces between the physical and the virtual world, between the natural and the synthetic. Her work has been recognized and presented internationally, in festivals such as Prix Ars Electronica (AT), Sónar (ES, HK), Transmediale (DE), Sonic Arts Award (IT), Elektra (CA), Mutek (MX, CA, JP, AR), ISEA (CA, KR), ACT (KR), L.E.V et LABoral (ES), Scopitone (FR), Café Oto (UK).

Pierce Warnecke‘s work is at the frontier of experimental music, digital art and video art, and is strongly influenced by the observation of the effect of time on matter: modification, deterioration and disappearance. To explore these observations, he likes to imagine a non-existent problem, an unreal hypothesis or a fictitious science as a basis for artistic research. This imagined false trail then takes shape through a process of collecting, filtering and modifying existing phenomenas (objects, data, recordings) and continues with a readaptation of this recovered material into a parallel context where symbols, significant meanings and cultural connections become residual ghosts. The dominant threads of his installations are the omnipresent but non-explicit narrative and the use of raw objects and materials in dialogue with a technology that has been returned to its stool status.

He collaborates with artists such as Frank Bretschneider, Matthew Biederman and Keith Fullerton Whitman. He has presented his work at MUTEK, CTM, Elektra, KW Institut, La Biennale NEMO, Martin Gropius Bau, MAC Montreal, Scopitone, LEV Festival, SXSW, and is composing several sound and visual pieces for the Hexadome of the Institute for Sound and Music in Berlin. His music is released on Raster and Room 40; he is represented by DISK Agency, Berlin.

Sporobole welcomes in residency artists Myriam Bleau and Pierce Warnecke in laboratory mode.

The End Product is an audiovisual performative meditation about our daily online experiences. The work explores the particular rhythm of the constant data streams flooding our screens from multiple sources . The performance leads us into a speculative reflection on the hidden mechanisms behind the avalanche of hyper-stimulating information, who decides and controls the content ?, who profits from it ?, and who endures its effects ?

By following a user’s scroll through his personal commodified ‘feed’ landscape, the piece deceptively blurs the performative codes between performers and audience, and their networked interaction, alluding to another presence behind the likes, posts and selfies.
