TOUR DE TABLE / GRADUATES OF THE DEGREE IN CURRENT ARTISTIC PRACTICES
An artist’s apprenticeship is not elaborated in a linear or even hierarchical path with a single root from which the connections are born, it borrows a model where any element can influence any other, a rhizomatic structure. The students of the Université de Sherbrooke’s Diploma in Current Artistic Practices undoubtedly testify to the epistemological vitality of this path.
The graduate diploma in current artistic practices transmits the most up-to-date knowledge in the field of contemporary art. The transfer of knowledge is directly related to the practice of creation. Current art, relying on the original contribution of other disciplines, provokes a questioning of creative research and encourages a rethinking of one’s conception of the world.
At the end of their program, students are able to situate their practice in the Quebec cultural space and to contribute to the promotion and evolution of contemporary art.
To close this second year, the graduates propose with the event Tour de table, works that have, of course, each developed an individual reflection, but also offers us the opportunity to appreciate the fruits of a hard collective work, woven of friendship and connivance. Based on aspects and concepts related differently, but closely to current art, each of these works employs a selection of strategies, images, representations and ideas in the hope of reaching or provoking a reading of the reality of the world that challenges us.
In a way, everything in this diploma exhorts us to continue weaving a network of links between the institutional world and the artists: the University as a whole, the Sporobole Centre for Contemporary Art, the artist-run centers in Quebec, the professionals, artists and researchers that are the mentors, the teachers and, each and every one of the students.
