Sporobole presents a series of three sound performances programmed by the ASME collective. This special program wishes to highlight the importance of the context and the distribution place in the listening and interpretation of experimental music and sound arts. It is through a transdisciplinary approach that combines visual arts, sound arts, experimental music and performance and by using different formal, installation and contextual strategies that the guest artists and the ASME collective wish to bring to the forefront certain issues that emerge more naturally from visual arts than from sound arts and experimental music. In a way, it is a question of operating the principles of aesthetic distancing specific to the processes of representation of visual and media arts in the world of experimental music and sound arts, which are often closer to the modalities of presentation of the performing arts.

The ASME collective is composed of Philippe-Aubert Gauthier, Éric Desmarais, Olivier Doutres and Tanya St-Pierre and has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts.


Aids Wolf has brought his sounds to maturity over the past nine years by building compositions based on a set of intentional dissonances, polyrhythmies and the use of disjunctive forms. The element of chance is introduced into the group’s repertoire as a raw material for the compositional exercise, through the inclusion of instinctive exchanges and traced errors of various improvised motifs. The group’s formal explorations are based on various inspirations, such as monumental architecture, vexillology and postmodernist literature.

The creation of a dense environment, where sound matter materializes and merges through its high volume, plays a major role in Aids Wolf’s performance deliveries.

Yannick Desranleau, Chloe Lum and Alexander Moskos work using guitar, drums and amplified voice. Desranleau and Lum also collaborate in various visual arts projects under the name of Seripop; Moskos composes and performs solo under the pseudonym Drainolith.
